About Jen

Jen Sherrington is a children’s writer, educator and presenter based in Perth, Western Australia. She enjoys creating stories where the wonders of reading, writing and creative thinking are celebrated. Jen is the author of Grandma Love and Grandpa, Read This Book. During workshops, presentations and community events, Jen has fun sharing ideas, tips and discoveries.

Jen’s life started on a farm where wheat, sheep and a love of books grew. As a child, she often turned stories into adventures and adventures into stories with words, pictures and games. As a teenager, she liked scribbling in her diary and writing letters to her friends.

After studying in the city, Jen returned to the country to start her teaching career where she enjoyed teaching kindy kids, primary students and teens. In the Wheatbelt romance blossomed and she married a farmer. When Jen became a mum, she began writing children’s stories. Creative opportunities also cropped up for Jen in classrooms, communities and further afield. When Jen, her husband, two sons and their not-so-well-behaved pets moved to the city she met other writers who helped her achieve her dream of becoming a published author.

Jen’s favourite things spark writing ideas. Family moments, friendship fun and animal antics sneak into her stories. Inspiration often whirls when chatting with book club, movie group and writing buddies. Craft dabbling, Latin dancing and world exploring also make Jen’s smiles grow.

Presentations

Jen enjoys sharing her love of reading, writing and creative thinking during workshops, author talks and story-sharing sessions. She’s had experience presenting at schools, libraries and community events to tots, older children and adults. As an educator, Jen happily adapts sessions to classroom, curriculum and audience needs.
